Unlike other softwoods, Western Red Cedar has its own preservative oils that prevent it from rotting. Cedar is commonly used for Decking, Cladding and Roof Shingles, providing Durability and Stability to any exterior project.
If you prefer to let it weather down then you will get various shades of silvery grey. The tannin bleed or rusty coloured stains that you see on buildings typically commercial ones are a result of the Cedar getting wet. This does not affect its performance and can be avoided by oiling and sealing the cedar.
