The Kent Invicta Chamber has shortlisted Rap’s transformation of Blends for Friends for their ‘Construction Project of the Year’ award. Rap will be up against two other projects in the category, with the winner being announced at the 2018 Chamber Business Awards dinner on the 22nd of March.
About the refurbishment project
Blends for Friends, a bespoke tea making company based in Kemsing, commissioned Rap Interiors in 2017 to transform the interior of their two storey countryside barn. The project entailed implementing a custom made tea blending room (aka the ‘Blendatorium’), office space, café, and breakout area.
Rap first met Alex Probyn, the Blends for Friends Director, at an Institute of Directors event in 2016, where he revealed the fascinating story behind the company. After accepting a dare from university friends to get a job drinking tea – something Alex hated – he would go on to become a master blender before branching out and starting his own company.
How we were shortlisted
The judging panel took into account a number of factors in order to make their decision. These factors included how the refurbishment project has benefited the local community in terms of employment opportunities, apprenticeships and training; how Rap and Blends made use of private and public funding; the positive impact the project will have on the environment; and how the project has delivered change to the surrounding area.
With so many positives to shout about, the application form proved easy to write! There were so many positives, in fact, that it even beat our second submission – a stunning winery transformation in Barham.
