The importance of operator training
11-12-2022
Here at Riverside, we’re well aware that although staff training in the use of newly purchased machinery is of the utmost importance, it can often slip down the priority list as time passes and day-to-day working responsibilities takes precedence.
But did you know that employers have a legal duty of care to their employees – under the Health and Safety at Work Act – to equip their staff with the skills required to operate on-site machinery?
Over time, as staff come and go – and newer employees take their lead from longer-serving co-workers – instructions on the use of waste machinery, such as balers, may differ considerably, leaving newer recruits unarmed with the correct knowledge to carry out their role both safely and efficiently.
Even those highly-experienced operators can become blasé in their actions, either forgetting simple things or picking up bad habits along the way. But it’s important to remember that there are options available to prevent this pattern from continuing.
Whilst the Riverside team is arguably best-known for its commitment to the provision, service, and maintenance of our range of waste balers and compactors, our skills certainly don’t stop there.
We offer certified operator training – both at the time of initial installation, and via a series of refresher sessions every two years — to ensure all staff are on the same page in terms of actions required, ensuring your workforce isn’t left with a skills gap.
The courses available are cost-effective yet comprehensive, and cover a range of topics including safety guidance, baler maintenance regimes, sequence error troubleshooting and important baling do’s and don’ts.
So, if you want to get your workforce on top form, why not get in touch? From as little as £50, you can ensure everyone’s operating machinery correctly – and you are complying with legal requirements.
In addition, Riverside is considering the launch of an innovative, baler training package — to help boost the longevity and efficiency of your machinery and guarantee the safety of your staff.
A one-off annual fee would grant the user access to:
· Company-wide logins to access training videos for all machines — including maintenance checks and troubleshooting
· Ongoing technical advice and support throughout the year
· Access to digital baler manuals within the client section of the website
· A certificate of course completion — plus access to historic training records.
We’d love your feedback on whether this is of interest to you and your organisation — and if there are any additional services you would like us to cover.
Have your say — and secure a 10% discount on all goods (excluding balers) here.
