Power stations require regular maintenance and repairs to ensure safe and reliable operation, often during scheduled outages known as statutory outages. One company playing a key role in supporting these outages nationwide is Rubb UK.
Rubb specialise in custom fabric buildings that house equipment, materials, and personnel during maintenance periods. By providing these temporary structures, Rubb helps power stations maximise uptime, reduce delays, and increase efficiency.
What is a power station outage?
A power station statutory outage is a scheduled maintenance period during which a power station is taken offline to perform maintenance, repair, and safety checks that cannot be conducted while the plant is in operation. These outages are often required by law to ensure the continued safe and efficient operation of the power station.
By conducting regular maintenance and inspections, power stations can identify potential issues early on and address them before they become major problems that could cause unplanned outages or more serious safety issues.
These outages can last anywhere from a few days to several weeks, depending on the extent of the work that needs to be done.
Statutory outages are a regular part of power station operations and are critical to ensuring that the plant remains reliable and safe.
Rubb’s solution
Rubb specialise in the design, manufacture, and installation of high-quality custom fabric buildings and can support power station statutory outages by providing temporary fabric structures that can be used to house equipment, materials, and personnel during the maintenance period.
Our fabric structures are designed to be quickly erected and dismantled, making them an ideal solution for temporary use during power station outages. They can be customised to suit the specific needs of the power station, with features such as HVAC systems, lighting, and electrics.
By providing these temporary structures, Rubb can help power stations maximise their uptime during maintenance periods, reduce the risk of delays, and increase the efficiency of the maintenance process.
One of the key product offerings from Rubb that supports power station outages is the THA. These structures are designed to be quickly erected and dismantled, making them ideal for temporary use during maintenance periods. They can be customised to suit the specific needs of the power station. THA structures are also designed to be weather-resistant and durable, with a robust steel frame and PVC-coated polyester fabric cladding. This ensures that the structures can withstand harsh weather conditions and provide a safe and comfortable working environment for personnel during the outage.
Our previous projects
The efficiency of Rubb’s THA structure is demonstrated in Rubb’s solution for the Isle of Grain Power Station.
Rubb supplied three THA shelters to the Isle of Grain in 2017 to support GE Power with additional storage.
Rubb successfully manufactured, supplied, and built the three fabric structures in record time. The shelters measure 12m wide x 12m long and are covered with white flame retardant PVC fabric. The buildings include a 3.4m wide x 3.5m high, standard folding door in the front gable.
Rubb has provided structures to many other UK power stations, including:
Hunterston
Lynemouth
Sellafield
Wylfa
Berkeley
Hinkley
Winfrith
Dungeness
