CHARTER MARK AWARD FOR RADIOTHERAPY DEPARTMENT
The Therapeutic Radiography Department of the Cancer Centre at Belfast City Hospital has achieved the prestigious Charter Mark Standard. Charter Mark is the government’s national standard for customer service excellence. The Radiography Department provides a regional service to the population of Northern Ireland, treating approximately 250 patients each day. Commenting on the achievement, Director of Oncology Dr Russell Houston said: “This award is more proof of the excellent standard of care patients can expect from our radiotherapy department. We are very proud of their dedication to patients and to ensuring they receive the highest levels of service during what can be a very challenging time in their lives.” The assessment was carried out by SGS United Kingdom Ltd. When evaluating the service, the Charter Mark assessor stated that, “Commitment to the ethos of the Standard was evident at all levels from Senior Management through to operational front line staff”. The department was praised for the consultation processes in place with staff and patients regarding all aspects of care and clinical services transfer to the new Cancer Centre. The assessor also praised the availability of patient information and the extended roles that radiographers carry out to facilitate a more effective and fluid treatment journey for patients. This award means that patients attending the Radiotherapy Department will receive a quality service, consistently meeting and often exceeding their expectations, which is continually improving. ENDS
