SGS United Kingdom Ltd and the Energy Institute (EI) have teamed up to offer energy training courses and a wide range of professional development skills to help companies continuously improve their energy performance.
Using their renowned Academy, SGS is partnering with EI to provide different courses to help participants implement an effective energy management system (EnMS).
The Energy Institute, the professional membership body for the energy industry, is now promoting three different SGS 1-5 day training courses primarily focused on the requirements of ISO 50001 – the internationally recognised standard for energy management systems.
Daniel Curling, Manager of the SGS Academy said, “The SGS courses are more ISO 50001 based so they are perfect for participants who require an understanding of the practical elements of the standard, or who are interested in becoming an auditor for EnMS.”
SGS, the world’s leading inspection, verification, testing and certification company, is conversely promoting and selling four different Energy Institute training courses, ranging from 30 minute online modules for beginners and 12 day classroom courses for experienced energy managers.
“EI courses are more practitioner based – for those who want to extend their professionalism in energy management. Both sets of courses complement one another so that delegates can choose to begin with SGS courses and develop them further with EI courses or vice versa,” added Mr Curling.
Will Sadler, Training Manager of the Energy Institute, believes SGS energy courses work well in conjunction with their existing portfolio; “Tying in closely with the courses that we run at EI, ISO 50001 provides a comprehensive framework for managing energy performance. It is a standard that is gaining more and more traction and we want to ensure that we are meeting the demands of the market by offering courses that help to extend our customers’ level of understanding. The SGS Academy’s energy courses incorporate the central components of ISO 50001 and provide additional support to our customers, helping them to further develop their skills in energy management.”
Terry Coyle, ISO 50001 Product Manager at SGS said: “As the professional body for the energy industry within the UK the EI is viewed amongst energy professionals as the number one chartered organisation within the UK promoting energy efficiency and competency standards for personnel working in the energy industry. They have an exceptional name and by partnering with them it not only demonstrates SGS’ commitment to provide the best possible service to our training delegates and help them increase their knowledge within the energy market place but also to SGS’s ISO 50001 clients that by adopting the EI’s Certificate in Energy Management Essentials as our minimum standard for auditor competency that our auditors are qualified to effectively audit their Energy Management Systems.”
Will Sadler also feels that partnering with SGS was an obvious choice: “We’ve had experience with SGS in the past so we know first-hand that they are world leading experts in certification, verification and testing. We have full confidence in their ability to deliver adequate resources and training and we can see that they have a high level of commitment towards professionalism around energy management.”
