SGS UK is now offering distance learning based Institute of Quality Assurance (IQA) Certificate and Diploma courses. “These IQA courses are a welcome addition and part of our plan to expand our range of quality management systems courses,” says SGS Training Manager Gary Baker.
The IQA Certificate and Diploma are internationally recognised, industry-standard qualifications for quality professionals. They have been accredited by the Qualifications Curriculum Authority (QCA) in support of the Department for Education and Skills (DfES).
Quality Management & Training (QM&T) operates and administers the IQA Certificate and Diploma. “Weve been running these successful and popular courses since 2000,” says QM&T Director Edda Saunders. “They bring major benefits to employees and employers alike, particularly the ability to confidently interpret and apply all the latest quality assurance principles, practices, tools and techniques.”
The IQA Certificate in Quality is an introductory-level (NVQ Level 3) qualification for people new to the quality field. It is assessed by an assignment and an exam. Successful students may apply to become associate members of the IQA.
The IQA Diploma in Quality is a degree-level qualification provided in collaboration with the University of Central England (UCE). Assessment is by an assignment and five exams. It meets the academic criteria for membership of the IQA.
Flexible Distance Learning
The Certificate and Diploma courses are designed so that students can work at their own pace and from any location, as long as they complete them within two years and six years respectively.
“The Diploma course suits me well because distance learning is the only way I could undertake such training,” says Peter Broad, Assistant Manager, Design Review, TV Operations at Sony. “Ive only recently started the course but have already applied some of my new knowledge.”
Distance learning materials provided include a textbook, guidance notes, workbook, course syllabus, self-assessment exercises and past papers. Tutorial support is provided by an experienced QM&T tutor using telephone, fax, e-mail or written correspondence, as and when required by the student.
Students have access to the UCEs online library and can choose to attend three one-day workshops at UCE.
“During both courses I found the e-mail based tutor support worked well,” says Julie Burningham, Quality Engineer at Stadco. “The IQA Certificate and Diploma have given me the knowledge to carry out all aspects of my job more quickly and effectively.”
