Qbic Hotels London
n February 2015 Sign Specialists were approached by Qbic Hotels London to meet to discuss and provide advice regarding the rebrand of their existing hotel near to the City of London. Initial client scheme drawings were looked over and examined and opinions given as to the viability or otherwise of what the client was looking to achieve. The client's remit was clear – to give the external aspects of the hotel a makeover and to ensure that any signage that was installed matched the brand standard already set by their sister hotel in Amsterdam.
From the supplied visuals, Sign Specialists then consulted as to what was achievable, what was not and why and also put forward recommendations as to the specification of the main signage which included cladding an existing entrance canopy, a new fascia to span the front of the building, high level signage and various window graphics as well as car park signage.
A full site survey was undertaken to record accurate dimensions of the areas where the signage and graphics were to be installed and also to identify any issues that might impact on production and/or installation for early resolution.
Once the specification was determined and agreed on which included pushed through acrylic on folded aluminium trays and built up letters (all of which were illuminated externally by trough lighting) our visuals and scheme drawings were submitted for planning consent. One slight complication was that the hotel was situated in a conservation area which meant that the signage scheme had to do its task of reflecting the brand while still being permissible by the authorities
Once planning was passed, Sign Specialists set to work with the manufacture of the signage and installation. One issue we identified and which had to be overcome prior to being on-site was how to install the high-level signage without having to gain permission to park access machinery on what is a very busy and narrow street. The solution? Abseilers. If we couldn’t install from the ground up then we would do it from the roof down which was achieved with a minimum of disruption to the local area and more importantly the hotel itself
Also during the course of the project, we were tasked with producing internal wayfinding to reflect the bright and vibrant brand which included various size graphic panels being installed throughout the hotel and at all levels
Working with a client who was always open to suggestions, different ways of thinking and pragmatic in their own ideas and opinions made the project a very enjoyable one to work on and we look forward to working with them again in the future.
