Town Centre Noise Impact
This week Soundguard Acoustics Ltd was contracted to provide an internal noise impact assessment for a proposed House of Multiple Occupancy development within an existing Grade II listed building in Barnstaple, Devon. The Environmental Health Officer and the Local Planning Department had a concern regarding the proximity of other commercial premises, including ventilation plant and amplified music from a nearby public house and restaurant within the town centre development. The monitoring took place over four evenings and included an assessment of the soundscape during the busier Friday and Saturday nights as well as Sunday and Monday evenings. BS8233:2014 was used as a methodology, with published advice from Pro PG PLanning and Noise guidance and World Health Organisation vales to recommended internal ambient conditions to promote good living and sleeping conditions. The building was performing well and, despite the presence of town centre people noise, it was indicated that no signifciant adverse noise impact was to be expected from music, or indutrial plant noise which presented the main concern. Soundguard Acoustics Ltd supplied the client with a full acoustics report and continues to advise during the remainder of the planning process. If you have a similar project and require a noise impact assessment then please contact us for further advice and quotations. or call us on 01237 478142
