When designing the cTouch 2, Spring focused on creating a high-end consumer electronic product from scratch. They showcased their expertise in every aspect of electronic product design, including custom PCB, firmware, enclosures, and high-end graphical UI. The cTouch 2 offers advanced features such as built-in UPS, ethernet connectivity, a 10-inch TFT color touch screen display with a single board computer (SBC) for a fluid UI experience. It also includes an online update system accessible through the UI or web interface. The custom enclosure was designed in-house, utilizing a sheet folding process involving CNC routing and forming to achieve a low-volume product with a high-end appearance. The touchscreen panel and LCD are securely bonded to prevent calibration drift. Mounting options include VESA standard holes and a custom-designed stand. Custom electronics were used to enhance the SBC, including a small PIC-based circuit for RS485 interfacing, voltage regulation, UPS functionality, RTC (real-time clock), and LED notification. The graphical UI was designed using the Qt graphical library, ensuring an intuitive and engaging user experience. A web interface allows for remote configuration and file transfers, while networked units can communicate securely using SSL encryption, enabling remote control and status monitoring from anywhere in the world.
