EMC and LVD Approval:

The EMC (Electromagnetic Compatibility) and LVD (Low Voltage Directive) are new-approach directives that require compliance with essential requirements.
Compliance with the main requirements can be demonstrated by assessing the safety of the product or apparatus using a list of harmonized standards.
The manufacturer's declaration includes a liability statement from the manufacturer or importing agent, accepting legal consequences for equipment conformity to the LVD-essential requirements.
Manufacturers have the option to conduct testing themselves or use any test-house for compliance testing.
It is recommended that manufacturers use the Harmonized Standards for type testing, although other safety standards or no standard can be applied in the absence of Harmonized Standards.
Harmonized standards, specifically created or modified for this purpose, are published in the official newspaper of the EC (OJEC) and the official journals of all EC members.
