AISI 4130 - chromium molybdenum alloy steel. A low alloy steel is used in oil patch applications and used widely as an aircraft steel. 4130 is an oil and gas steel grade with a lower carbon content than 4140 giving 4130 improved weldability, the trade off is reduced through thickness strength. 4130 has a low resistance to corrosion. 4130 can also be used to make car connecting rods, shafts, fittings, engine mounting lugs, bushes, gears, axles, bolts, gas cylinders, airframe components, hydraulic lines and nitrided machinery parts. Typical range of hardness is 90-96 Rockwell B.
