Sugatsune's unbending support for larger doors

A modern kitchen is likely to have several double or even full height doors fronting cabinets the contemporary eye delights in expanses of unbroken glossy surfaces. The designer who has to deliver these solutions is faced with a challenge. A standard 60cm by 80cm will often be made of MDF or timber composites. It will be thin and light and dimensionally stable. Using the same technology to make doors two or three times the size increases the weight and massively stresses the materials. The result is that warping is to be expected particularly with composites. Making doors out of thicker materials will make them stable but unmanageably heavy, hinges will be stressed and the feeling in the hand will be wrong. The smart solution is to use door tensioners to manage the stresses in the door and keep them straight. Straightening rods like the TNA421 pictured above and below are engineered into the door and concealed either beneath a smart aluminium panel or invisibly beneath a laminate. The rod has a threaded sleeve section which when turned by a hex key from the end either applies tension or relief and adjusts any movement in the door. The ST741 is a complete unit built into a smart aluminium extrusion which is installed on the inside of the door, where it is surface mounted. When it us used with sliding pocket doors it is often used as a handle where it's smart clean looks compliment the design. It also visually obscures the pocket when the door is open contributing to a clean look. It is adjusted from the top edge of the sliding door by inserting and turning a hex key.
