What is a “Shear-Seal”
The Shear-Seal®is a small hardened metal cylinder that is inserted in a bored hole in the valve body. The face of the cylinder forms a seal against the face of the rotor.
The passage between the outside of the cylinder and the bore in the body is sealed by an O-ring. The O-ring is protected by two backup rings, one on either side.
A wave washer sits underneath the cylinder and holds the sealing end of the Shear-Seal®in contact with the face of the rotor.
The flow of the media creates differential pressure pushing the Shear-Seals up against the rotor which increases the sealing force and prevents leakage
