A Stannah Lowriser wheelchair platform lift is making extended educational facilities more accessible in Milton Mount Primary School, a vibrant, mainstream state school in Crawley, West Sussex.
Having undergone considerable expansion to accommodate more pupils, it was imperative to meet the requirements of the Equality Act 2010 and provide access for people of all ages and mobility levels. The Lowriser provides a cost-effective and unobtrusive solution, linking teaching facilities ranged over two floors separated by a nominal 1000mm rise of six steps.
Sited next to the steps, it complements the school’s light and airy decor. The metalwork structure is finished in a durable white powder coating, with a half-height, glass panel door at the upper level.
At ground level, a ramp aids access to and from the lift, and folds vertically to secure the wheelchair and occupant during travel. Grey, anti-slip flooring further ensures safety. At the upper level, the lift levels flush with the floor for seam-free access.
Headmistress, Anne Holmes, comments: “We are delighted to have extended our educational facilities to accommodate more pupils, but provision had to be made so that people of all ages and mobility levels could access facilities divided by a small change in floor level. The Stannah Lowriser wheelchair platform lift delivered a compact, convenient, cost-effective solution, helping to fulfil our school’s ethos of ‘educational access for all’.”
Ideal for internal or external vertical travel up to one metre, the Lowriser brings choice and flexibility to all types of public buildings, schools, colleges, shops etc. Operated by a scissor lifting mechanism, the lift is available in three platform sizes with a range of optional features. It carries a rated load of up to 300kg at a contract speed of 0.02mps, and automatically returns to ground level after use.
The Lowriser complies with all statutory regulations, standards and directives such as CE marking, Part M of the Building Regulations, BS 8300:2009 Code of Practice, and BS6440:1999, the current British Standard for Powered Lifting Platforms.
The Stannah Lowriser is serviced by the London & the South East (Crayford) branch of Stannah Lift Services, part of a nationwide network providing 24 hour, 365 days a year support.
