Bat Boxes - Superior Accommodation For Sunderland Bats

This week has seen Three Shires installing three Herpetosure Four Seasons Bat Boxes at the old Cherry Knowle Hospital in Sunderland. The bat boxes, which were installed for the Home and Communities Agency (HCA) will provide long term roosting basis for Cherry Knowle’s various bat species. The Four Season Bat Boxes are capable of accomodating many of the thousands of bats which are currently using the roof of derelict hospital building. The first step was to build solid contrete bases on which the galvanised steel pedistals could be attached. The bat boxes were mechanically elevated and secured to their final position some 4 metres above the ground. In addition to the three large bat boxes the team also installed 32 Schwegler 2FN bat boxes to further enhance the site and improve the surrounding habitat for bats.
