Badger Sett Construction and Badger Sett Closures -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Three Shires Ltd have completed a large number of Badger Sett Construction and Badger Sett Closure projects in England and Scotland over the last few months. Managing Director, James Lloyd was invited North of the border to Fyfe to work on the third Badger Sett Construction project for ATH Resources. Working closely with consultancy Amec-Entec our works included the site assessment and identification of main and outline setts for badger sett closure and the identifification of 3 receptor areas for new badger sett construction. Three Shires Ecological contracting division constructed 3 new badger setts in total; the main sett consisted of 16 chambers with 6 entrances, with the two smaller setts providing 3 chambers and 3 entrances per badger sett. Following the new artificial badger sett construction, a badger exclusion exercise was carried out. This involved installing a total of 25 badger gates along with chain link aprons to prevent badgers digging back into the old setts. The work was all completed over 5 visits between September 2009 and September 2010. Three Shires also recently completed the construction of a further 2 badger setts in Edinburgh for clients Transport Scotland. These setts consisted of 5 nesting chambers and 5 entrances and all works were completed along side consultancy Jacobs.
