Here at Top Tower, we preach safety when it comes to using access equipment. This includes ensuring your access solution is perfect for the task at hand, wearing appropriate safety equipment and plenty of training beforehand. However, this doesn't always seem to translate to films…
Hollywood movies are full of, let's say interesting, uses of ladders throughout the years. And while we probably can’t recommend any of the below uses, we thought it would be a fun topic to explore.
So read on to have a look at some ladder-related stunts on the big screen.
Cops (1922)
In this very early appearance of a ladder on the big screen. Buster Keaton is being pursued by police officers and climbs up a ladder balanced over a fence.
The ladder is then hilariously pulled back and forth by the police as Keaton attempts to stay balanced on it. Eventually, he is catapulted off the ladder and the chase continues.
Police Story 4: First Strike (1997)
Jackie Chan has always been at the forefront of some incredible movie fight scenes, and this film was no exception. His character enters a building that is being renovated and begins a massive fight scene.
As he fights seemingly endless goons, he utilises a series of everyday items as weapons, including a table, chairs, boxes and yes, a ladder. At one point he even ascends the scaffold tower as it is pushed around by the people he is fighting.
The Mummy (1999)
In this action-adventure film, Rachel Weisz plays a librarian working in Cairo at the start of the movie. While researching on top of a ladder, she reaches for another shelf and somehow ends up with the ladder precariously balanced in the middle of the aisle.
While she maintains composure for a few seconds, she eventually falls forward - knocking down a library shelf which triggers a chain reaction like dominos and destroys the whole library.
Scream VI (2023)
Not for the faint of heart, the Scream movie franchise has always prided itself on its epic set pieces. In the 6th film of the franchise, Ghostface shows up to the Carpenter sister’s apartment in an attempt to kill them and their friends.
To escape they extend a ladder from one window into another apartment, which the group then perilously crawl across. The scene ends with Ghostface toppling the ladder, and one character falling to the street below.
This heart-racing climb has been a staple in movies and TV shows for years, with other similar examples in The Simpsons Movie and Nerve.
