Tractive Power ease the Burden for Meridian

Meridian Technologies have recently enrolled the services of Tractive Power to address an ongoing problem that up until now, they had not been able to find a product for. Meridian first contacted Tractive Power in April 2009 and enquired about moving their Die Press Tools from the stores to the machine centres.The existing process involved using overhead cranes to load the dies on to a lorry trailer and move the Dies outside from one workshop to another. The logistics of this was difficult and meant planning production, in conjunction with hiring a lorry to come in on time ready for the next production run. Tractive Power visited site for a free consultation and discussed the application in depth to review the best system to handle the issue. After analysis Tractive Power offered a unique product which would be custom made especially for Meridian. The product offered, was a 30,000kg flat bed burden carrier. This would be battery powered and pedestrian operated and had to manoeuvre through the existing walkway area covering a distance of 150m per journey. The powered Burden Carrier is a single user operation and manoeuvred by a hand held chest pack with a joystick control. This operates the forward/reverse speed and the powered steering motor with great accuracy. A hydraulic weight transfer system is also used to ensure traction at all times to the drive wheel. Designed and manufactured at Tractive Power the powered Burden Carrier was commissioned on 11/11/09 at Meridian Technologies with great success. Adam Campbell of Meridian commented, "Now we have the burden carrier we can move forward with our plans for expansion and run with even greater efficiency." Lee Brown also of Meridian commented, "We have always wanted to move all our dies into the stores to create more space in the manufacturing area. However, this would make production planning difficult, as we need to get a lorry in to move the die from stores to manufacturing. Therefore to minimise this we had to keep our most common dies in the manufacturing area to hand. The burden carrier now takes all the planning away and allows us to be more flexible, because with the best will in the world plans can change."
