Thickness gauging using Rope Access
03-07-2008
Dorchester based, Tritex NDT have developed a new Multiple Echo Ultrasonic Thickness Gauge specifically designed for hands free use when using rope access techniques during ship surveys.
The Multigauge 5500 has a bright LED display on the top of the gauge which can be easily viewed when mounted onto the chest harness straps. The clever mounting system ensures the gauge hangs vertically so the display is always visible. Mounting the gauge onto the chest harness eliminates the need to also wear a belt and avoids the gauge swinging around if a neck strap is used or if it is attached to gear loops, preventing damage to the gauge. The probe cable socket has been mounted on top of the gauge so that the probe can be easily stored in a top pocket, or around the back of the neck, between measurements.
The gauge uses multiple echo to ignore coatings, which is specified by class societies. In addition, all probes have Intelligent Probe Recognition (IPR), which automatically adjusts settings in the gauge resulting in a perfectly matched probe and gauge for enhanced performance. Thats not all; the Automatic Measurement Verification System (AMVS) ensures only true measurements are displayed, even on the most heavily corroded metals. Tritex Triple Echo also significantly reduces preparation time as it eliminates the need to remove surface coatings, just the metal is measured. An enhanced through coating measurement feature called Coating Plus+ allows measurements to be taken through coatings up to 20 mm thick, depending on the coating type
In developing these gauges, Tritex have remained committed to respecting the environment by omitting the use of hazardous substances and materials in all products by complying with the RoHS and WEEE directives.
All gauges are manufactured to comply with British Standards BS EN 15317:2007, which covers the characterisation and verification of ultrasonic thickness measuring equipment.
