Unisto reusable electronic seals ideal for coming harsh
winter.
Newport, UK – 5 January 2006 -- The Crypta® reusable electronic seals are ideal for coping with the severe winter conditions being predicted for the UK and Europe. These seals from Unisto Electronic Seals have been fully tested by independent test houses to BS2011 standards for being able to withstand the attacks of freezing water, salt and dust that occur when mounted on a vehicle. Moreover, the seals were extensively tested last winter by companies in Sweden and Monten, Finlands biggest haulier serving the bulk feed sector.
The seals have two key advantages over rival offerings that become particularly important in the challenging conditions of winter. First, the product is completely sealed and filled with an inert potting compound, unlike mechanical devices, so that nothing can get inside to affect its operation. Second, the seal number is displayed via the integral
illuminated display making it very easy to read in dark or dimly lit conditions of winter – no fiddling with a torch to try and see the numbers.
The proof of their robustness was confirmed by the Swedish tests when seals travelled thousands of kilometres each day during the depth of winter. “Despite temperatures that dropped into deep subzero -- often minus 40 degrees Celsius, they worked perfectly all the time and the locking mechanism was easy to operate even with thick gloves on,” according to one of the companies that was testing them. Montens Managing Director, Kaj-Erik Monten, added, “We wanted a system that
is not only easy to use and compliant with the new legislation in this country but can also be used when operating throughout the rest of Europe. The seals from Unisto were trialled to see if they could stand up to our winter conditions. They worked faultlessly so we equipped our entire fleet of vehicles.” The Crypta seals are based on Unistos award winning, re-usable electronic seal system. The unit automatically generates a four-digit random seal number every time it is closed and also records the time and date of each opening and closing, storing details of the past 50 operations in its memory. Thus, at any time, the integrity of the load can be verified by checking that the original seal number from the initial loading operation is unchanged. The life expectance of the unit is between six and eight years depending on
the operation usage pattern, enabling it to easily pay for itself compared to the costs of disposable seals.
