The DigiEye System introduced by UK-based VeriVide is a non-contact digital imaging system that captures the total color and appearance of 2D and 3D objects in a unique controlled lighting environment. The DigiEye system includes an imaging system, colorimetric system, DigiGrade system and related software.
According to VeriVide, Luen Thai in Hong Kong uses the DigiEye system to save time and shipping costs. Within Luen Thai, the DigiEye system is used for the precise imaging and colour measurement of samples, previously not possible with a spectrophotometer, such as Marl and Heather fabrics where measurements are averages of the area of colour measured.
The Hong Kong company now uses the DigiEye Clustering function to control the colour of their Heather production at the yarn stage by measuring the wraps of yarn and calculating the composition of the grey yarn and the coloured yarn to give qualitative data.
As the image is captured in controlled and consistent lighting the DigiEye software can extract colour information from the image at a more precise manner than from a conventional photograph. The results can be communicated to the manufacturing unit for improved quality control.
The DigiEye system is also used within Luen Thai for quality control of small areas of colour such as dot prints, which traditionally relied upon visual matching techniques, eliminating the need to ship physical samples and removing inaccurate and ambiguous colour measurements. The data can be exported to a .qtx file and supplied to the producers of the trims such sewing thread, tape etc for improved colour control of components within a garment.
