M&S endorse DigiGrade
08-08-2007
VeriVide Ltd has been enjoying an exciting year with and one of the most exciting developments has been in our long standing connection with Marks and Spencer.
For many years VeriVide has provided lighting and viewing equipment for Marks and Spencer but the latest involvement includes DigiEye plc. Following extensive trials using DigiEye's Digital Fastness Grading System, DigiGrade, Marks and Spencer has adopted DigiEye's digital grading for their suppliers.
Phil Patterson, Marks and Spencer's dyeing, printing, finishing and colour manager, said he is confident that the superior consistency and accuracy that DigiGrade gives over visual assessment will allow faster and more reliable decision making throughout the entire supply chain.
In a press release Phil Patterson noted, "The issue of inconsistent and subjective visual grading occasionally releases poor quality merchandise into the system and, more commonly, results in the rejection of huge amounts of fit-for-purpose merchandise.
Also at any given time huge amounts of fabric and garments are on-hold, awaiting physical test pieces to be sent around the world to our technical teams. We are convinced that using a totally objective method to assess colour fastness will help eliminate unnecessary bottlenecks and reduce the risk of customers being sold substandard merchandise."
He continued, "Using DigiGrade's digital grey scale, as opposed to the visual method of rounding down, means that borderline issues can be resolved with more speed, accuracy and certainty than ever before. Additionally, due to the greater accuracy and confidence in digital grading, we have been able to give 0.25 point concessions for selected tests when graded by DigiGrade."
The fact that major manufacturers are acknowledging DigiGrade as being a vital component in the production of textile goods is excellent news to both VeriVide and DigiEye plc. World experts from the field of imaging, lighting, colour and grading have worked together to develop DigiGrade.
Where commercial judgements are required, the image and data can be sent electronically in one file so that a decision can be made quickly without the need to send physical test samples. Using its comprehensive range of measuring tools DigiGrade has no problems with grading intricate patterns and accessories.
To have Marks and Spencer endorse DigiGrade as being such an important asset to their business is a great accolade.
