Textile Network- Apparel. ITMA 2007 Review - COLOUR MEASUREMENT
Large Area Imaging can capture total full-length garmentsVeriVide, Leicester (GB), presented a new DigiEye system. DigiEye was first introduced to the industry at ITMA 2003. It is a non-contact imaging system that captures the total colour and appearance of 2D and 3D objects in a unique controlled environment. A calibrated monitor gives true on-screen colour simulation of the object and the profiled printer produces high quality hard copies.
DigiEyes ability to select and retrieve colour data from any pixel in the high-resolution image allows the measurement of very small or irregular shaped samples, says VeriVide. Indeed the colour data detail can be so fine, the company likes to think the system “can measure the immeasurable”, highlighting the colour measurement of fine lace with different coloured skin tones behind it as an example.
Measured colours are represented by their “finger-prints” in terms of colorimetric values or spectral data. Electronic communication of the image and colour data is easy and fast over the internet using the standard formats. It is an invaluable tool for specifiers sourcing coloured components from different suppliers within a global supply chain.
The DigiEye system combines both hardware and software. The hardware consists of a characterised digital camera, an illumination cabinet and calibrated high definition CRT monitor.
During ITMA 2007, VeriVide went a stage further with the DigiEye, launching the new DigiEye Large Area Imaging System. Using two specially designed lighting units to provide even, diffuse illumination over an area of 1,500 x 1,300 mm whole garments, groups of garments or print repeats may be repeatedly imaged and communicated worldwide. With VeriVide Large Area Imaging one can ensure that all product components match in all specified lighting conditions claim the company.
According to VeriVide the main features of this new system are:
- an even, diffuse illumination of up to 1,500 x 1,300 mm;
- an optional retractable hood which can be added, together with surrounding curtains, if required, to cut out all ambient lighting;
- an excellent image reproducibility and realistic visualisation of colour and appearance.
It is already in use with a major UK, retailer, says VeriVide.
