The tube inserts guide
Welcome to the Vital Parts tube inserts guide, throughout this guide we will cover how to come up with the measurements to ensure a proper fit for your tube insert, some common uses for inserts as well as what we offer in terms of tube inserts, from angled to chromed.
At Vital Parts we accept that measuring wall thickness can be challenging for some people, especially without the proper measuring tools such as a Vernier. For this reason we have decided to give our customers a proper guide on how to go about working out your wall thickness of your tube, which is needed to ensure a perfect fit first time.
Measuring the Tube
Firstly, when you’re trying to work out the your tube size, you should start off by measuring the outside diameter of the tube. On the right we have provided an image for you to give you a better idea of why this is important, as you can see the tube insert head should sit on the end of your tube so this needs to match up (or be very close) to your tube size.
Secondly, now that you have the outside diameter, you must measure the internal diameter of the tube/object that you are measuring.
Thirdly, now that you have both of these measurements to work out the wall thickness of your tube, you must subtract the internal diameter from the outside diameter, divide that figure by 2 and this will give you your wall thickness! Once you have the required wall thickness you can go about choosing the style and variation of tube insert that you would like.
All measurements should be taken in millimetres, as this is industry standard.
Tube inserts often cover a range of wall thickness’s due to their flexible ribs. i.e. if you wall thickness is 1.5mm, it would be fine to select a tube insert that covers 1-3mm Wall thickness as 1.5mm fits between this range.

Uses of different tube inserts
Round Threaded Inserts, Threaded Tube Inserts
Threaded Tube insert
Each variation of insert that we offer has a multitude of different uses, for example our angled tube inserts are ideal for school chairs with angled legs, they are made to fit the industry standard leg size of 19.1mm and are available in every colour to suit your needs.
Another example of uses are our threaded inserts, these are tube inserts fitted with a metal thread (M6-M12) that enables things such as adjustable feet to be placed inside which provide a lot more stability and durability than a standard plastic thread, we stock threaded inserts in square, round and rectangular for all of your needs and uses.
We also stock many aesthetic tube inserts which provide a clean, modern looking finish to every tube/thing that you are inserting into. One aesthetic insert that we offer are the round Chrome finished inserts which have a metallic finish and can be attached on to any tube to give it a great look, we also offer each variation of insert in either glossy black or a matte finish so it really is up to you to decide what fits you and your project the best and most practically.
