BRIGHT FINISH TO SUMMER MONTHS
13-12-2020
Over Christmas and the school summer holidays, you can usually expect a downturn in business. The tumbleweed effect of July and August somehow didn’t materialise for much of the Wernick Group, with a number of new projects and full diaries to keep teams across the country on their toes.
The summer started with the opening of SPECIFIC’s energy positive office built by Wernick Buildings. A first for Wales and the UK, this building utilises the latest in energy saving and harvesting technology. A modular building was chosen due to the environmental and time saving benefits as well as the achievable aesthetics of this method of construction. The success of the project has enabled SPECIFIC to apply for, and win, additional Government funding to further develop clean energy buildings. The new Active Building Centre will seek to remove barriers and accelerate market adoption of new solar-powered building design.
A strong summer was also enjoyed by the Buildings team in Scotland whose yearly turnover has increased by 300%, thanks, in part, to Scottish Government funding for new school places as well as a number of new orders from returning clients. The buildings team have worked tirelessly to provide buildings for 13 schools all over Scotland over the school holidays. Leading construction firm Morgan Sindall chose Wernick to deliver a number of projects in the Inverness area before pupils returned from the summer break.
Chris Hart, Regional Manager (Scotland) commented: “When we started last year we knew this summer would be busy but we never expected such a significant success in sales orders. Although fabulous, to triple the business levels of the previous year has been a massive challenge, both operationally and commercially. I would like take this opportunity to thank our team here in Glasgow, and of course our customers both new and existing for choosing Wernick Buildings.” In total, 150 modules were delivered by the team in three months.
The summer months are undoubtedly the busiest for the Wernick Events team who supply temporary accommodation, storage and comfort facilities for long or short term hire. The team have supplied hundreds of units for some of the UK’s most prestigious festivals & events, which this year included WOMAD, Reading festival, the Royal Welsh Show, British Summer Time Hyde Park and the Royal International Air Tattoo to name just a few. (Head over to Twitter to see details.)
Liam Muldoon, Managing Director of Wernick Events is more than happy with summer 2018: “Hundreds of satisfied customers book with us time and time again and cumulatively, year on year, we have grown. Repeat orders mean healthy bookings for the year ahead and new bookings coming in from word of mouth.” Thanks to the glorious weather this year, the team have also enjoyed easier installs (and derigs) and fewer cancellations, with Liam adding: “We couldn’t have asked for a better summer. The weather has helped to make this our best summer yet”.
