Wernick Hire has officially launched a Training Programme for Yard Operatives. The 18-month programme was established as an initiative to bring young people into the business by giving them the skills they need through hands-on training to become a multi-skilled member of the Wernick Hire team.
Following a successful application, the Trainee will work alongside their Mentor and experienced members of the Wernick Hire team, learning every aspect of a Yard Operative’s role. They will receive certificates for each module they complete and for any external courses they undertake including working with specialist equipment and obtaining their CSCS Operatives card which will enable the Trainee to assist with basic maintenance on customer sites.
Both the Trainee and the Mentor will be given workbooks which need to be appropriately signed and completed as the training programme progresses. These workbooks will be used for the Trainee’s portfolio and will include all the training, tasks, tests, and evidence collected throughout the programme.
In addition, the Trainee will attend quarterly reviews with the Depot Manager to discuss their progress and to set goals and targets for the upcoming quarter.
Upon completion, the Trainee will receive their final certificate which will signal the end of their training and the Wernick Hire depot will receive a plaque in acknowledgement of their participation and support of the programme.
Wernick Hire’s Regional Director, Ricky Wedlock, commented: “I was delighted to be asked to head up this programme on behalf of Wernick Hire. When I started in this industry I worked in the yard as a Joiner, from here I worked my way up through many varied roles to my current role as Regional Director for Scotland. So, I am an example that there is no limit to what these trainees can achieve. The focus of this programme is to train up the next generation to the high standards we expect and apply within our industry. It’s great to see the opportunities we are creating for new trainees right across our business from the yard to the office, right up to business graduates who all benefit from the same drive and focus we apply to all our training programmes.”
Managing Director of Wernick Hire, Michael Thistlethwaite, also commented: “Wernick Hire is fully committed to developing young talent and the new trainee operative programme is testament to that. I am delighted that we are now in a position to launch our new training scheme and look forward to welcoming the 2021 intake in the coming weeks.”
