High speed steel has more advantages to the standard high carbon tool steel specifications. It will withstand increases in temperature without losing its temper and this enables the steel to cut faster than high carbon steel. Hence the name high speed steel. Stocks are held in the tungsten molybdenum type high speed steel. Cobalt molybdenum high speed steel grades are also available, which offer high hardness, excellent cutting properties with high red hardness and good toughness.
