Our Top 5 Construction Projects To Watch
Every year new construction projects are undertaken in the UK and they are becoming more expansive and creative. Whether it’s a singular building or a large-scale development, construction comes in many shapes and sizes.
1. Maidenhead Community
Maidenhead is undergoing a huge redevelopment of its town centre. The project is designed to create a mixed use community and it sits close to both Maidenhead Station. Maidenhead Station is set to shortly be home to the Elizabeth Line trains. The idea behind the Maidenhead mixed-use community is to turn an old 1960s shopping centre into a large scale multi purpose development which will house and serve the local community. Early works started in Q4 of 2021 and work is expected to be completed by Q3 of 2022 should all aspects of work run on time.
2. Liverpool Waters
Liverpool docks has been a huge development in recent years and it’s envisioned to be a 30 year redevelopment of the area. The area recently lost its UNESCO World Heritage status, however work is still underway to redevelop the area which has seen a huge boost in recent years and it looks as though the losing its UNESCO status isn’t slowing down plans either. New hotels, office space and conference facilities are all planned for the area and one of the biggest developments underway is the new Everton Stadium, as well as the new Sisk Ferry Terminal as well.
3. Hanging Garden of Salford
In recent years Salford has undergone huge redevelopment such as the Salford Quays and Media City. Now the area looks set to add another major attraction with a new 10 storey building that replicates a hanging garden. The building combines beauty with green credentials, housing new office space which will be covered with close to 4000 square metres of greenery. In addition to office space it will also feature new retail units with the key part of the building being its focus on renewable energy. The project is being carried out by a number of leading building firms in partnership with the city’s own council.
4. Boho Digital City
Boho Digital City has been a huge part of Middlesbrough’s redevelopment in recent years and it has continued to grow each year. The Boho Zone currently consists of a number of dedicated Boho Buildings which combine living spaces, retail zones and offices. Work is currently underway and the project is set to finally reach completion in Q4 of 2026. The project is described as a skyline changers and once completed it will have transformed a previously run down part of Middlesbrough, into a new Boho district that will shape future developments within the town centre.
5. HS2
HS2 is a controversial development that has been undertaken for a number of years and 2022 will see it continue to expand. The project is split into two phases with phase 1 aiming to be completed between 2029 and 2033 and phase 2 will complete before 2035, however it’s estimated that all major rail links might not be finished until 2040. The development provided work up and down the country across a number of sectors as it’s seen as one of the biggest shape ups of the rail industry since its push into public use.
