Ensuring workplace safety is one of the most important things that businesses should consider. It’s all about maintaining a working environment that isn’t only safe for its employees and clients, but one that is also productive.
Unfortunately, this is easier said than done because safety programs would be rendered useless if they don’t mean much to employees. Thus, it’s vital to keep them motivated to stay fit, healthy, and safe all the time. How? Well, read on!
● Create a plan to promote a healthy and safe workplace
It’s necessary for an employer to find ways to eliminate risks in their workplace. Create a safety plan in case worse gets to worst. Ensure that your employees have quick and easy access to first aid kits and fire extinguishers.
Also, see to it that hazardous tasks such as working with heavy-duty cleaning products and dealing with large machinery are kept at the disposal of professionals or experts.
● Double check your workplace
Make it a habit to inspect your workplace for potential hazards. Review safe work procedures and make sure that they’re strictly implemented throughout your establishment. See to it that your employees are properly instructed on how to lift heavy goods, or perhaps provide them training in case earthquakes or fire incidents happen.
Your workplace shouldn’t be prone to these incidents. If possible, construct a firewall to prevent the spread of fire in case nearby buildings do have one.
‘What can improve brand loyalty and a business’s performance?’ says David Rowland, Head of Marketing at Effective Software. ‘That’s easy. More stringent health and safety policies. Doing this one thing, that remember you should be doing anyway, will make your employees happier, will increase their productivity, and will make your shareholders and consumers happier. It really is a no-brainer’.
● Have regular meetings
Talk regularly with your employees and discuss safety and health issues with them. Motivate them to share their thoughts and opinions on how they can make the workplace safer. It would be a good idea to provide first aid training to them so that they know what to do in emergency situations.
● Thoroughly investigate incidents
Incidents don’t need to result to serious injury for you to do something about it. Investigate all incidents and know the reason behind why they happened. Determine its root cause and take necessary steps to stop it from happening again in the future.
● Keep records
Maintaining records of inspections, first aid treatments, training campaigns, and incident investigations creates a safer workplace for your employees. This helps you identify hazardous trends and remove them from your workplace culture. This also allows you to productively sort through incidents and have an easier time solving problems.
● Be creative with your workplace
Stress levels run high in a workplace as pressure builds up to meet your peers’ expectations. Because of this, it’s important that you tinker with their workplace directly. Change the setup of the office or perhaps have the interior of the factory painted with a lighter tone. This creates a positive ambiance in the workplace, which in turn, keeps them motivated to exercise safety and caution all the time.
All of the tips mentioned are sure-fire ways to keep your employees motivated to be safe and healthy at all times. However, all these still depend on you. It’s important that you, as an employer, should act as a leader and as an example of what an ideal employee should be like.
And be consistent in implementing these tips. When you do, there’s no doubt that you’ll have happy and healthy employees working in a safe and productive workplace.
