Need another good reason to take and complete the IOSH Working Safely Course? The Working Safely course is now recognised by the Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) as an equivalent of the Level 1 Award in Health and Safety in the Construction Environment.
That simply means that you can apply for a CSCS Green Labourer Card after successfully completing the Working Safely course and passing the CITB Health, Safety and Environment Operatives Test.
The Working Safely course has been designed to give learners the foundation for health and safety in the workplace by providing learners with knowledge on several key areas. These include primary safety issues in the workplace, protection of the environment, common workplace hazards, and the definition of hazards and risks.
The course is highly recommended for people who work in sectors that are considered to be high-risk. In some instances, completion of the course is a requirement for entry into an industry. But more importantly, the successful completion of the course is a sign of a worker’s and organisation’s competitiveness and adherence to the highest level of safety and health in the workplace.
In applying for a CSCS Green Labourer Card, you will need to undertake three steps.
First, you will need to get an acceptable qualification in H&S in a construction environment and send your certificate through post or electronically via email. In this case, you can use your Working Safely course certificate as proof of qualification.
After that, you will need to take and pass the CITB Health, Safety and Environment Test. This multiple choice, computer-based examination can be taken in an approved testing centre.
This test has been designed to ensure that workers have the minimum amount of knowledge regarding health, safety and environmental awareness. It is often used as a stepping stone by employers to hone and develop the knowledge of their workers.
Finally, you will need to pay £30. After showing proof of your certification and passing the exam, your payment will then be processed. Your CSCS card will then be sent to you through post.
In the UK construction industry, the CSCS is considered to be the leading skills certification scheme. CSCS cards, on the other hand, are recognised as proof that a worker in the construction sector has undergone relevant training and possesses the right qualifications for his job.
The CITB, on the other hand, works with industry professionals in England, Scotland, and Wales to encourage proper training in order to ensure safety in the workplace and the development of professional and qualified employees in the construction sector.
