C.Scope DXL3 Depth-Measuring Cable Avoidance Tool

The C.Scope DXL3 Depth-Measuring Cable Avoidance Tool is a user-friendly cable locator which can be used as a standalone instrument or with a signal generator to find underground metallic piping or cabling. Depth measurement is a particularly useful feature as it helps prevent costly and dangerous accidents when excavating ahead of maintenance, construction, or utility projects.

Three modes are available on the C.Scope DXL3, thus giving the user plenty of options when searching for cables or pipes. Firstly, power mode detects the signal generated by electric current in cables which is the quickest and simplest way of detecting power lines.

Secondly, radio mode can pick up on re-radiated radio signals that are often emitted by metal pipes and cables. This is the only way of locating both piping and cables using only the C.Scope DXL3 itself.

Finally, the C.Scope DXL3 has a generator mode whereby it works in combination with a C.Scope SGA3 Signal Generator to detect the signal as applied through the pipe or cable. Other possibilities in generator mode include working with other signal generators to help detect non-metallic pipes. The locator can therefore be a very comprehensive instrument.

The additional feature of depth measurement on the C.Scope DXL3 is really useful when trying to avoid contact with buried utilities. Depth can be measured between 0.2m and 3m with an accuracy of ±5% and a resolution of 0.05m.

Readings and information are displayed on the LCD screen and further feedback is provided by an audible buzzer. The eight AA batteries last for roughly 40 hours and the casing has an IP rating of IP65 which is very useful for work on challenging sites. It is designed to take a drop of up to 1m and comes with a three-year warranty.
