Chauvin Arnoux CA6505 HV Insulation Tester

The Chauvin Arnoux CA6505 HV Insulation Tester is suitable for use in the field thanks to its site-proof casing. It has fully adjustable test voltage between 40V and 5100V as well as pre-set test voltages of 500V, 1000V, 2500V and 5000V which allow insulation resistance measurement between 10kΩ and 10TΩ. Other measurement functions include voltage measurement, capacitance and leakage current, all with extremely large ranges and high accuracy.

Advanced measurement features like polarisation index and dielectric absorption ratio allow the user to accurately assess insulation quality whilst allowing for changes in temperature and humidity. Furthermore, adjustable duration tests perform a similar empirical function by adjusting for disturbance currents.

Results are shown on the Chauvin Arnoux CA6505’s huge, backlit, LCD screen which also has an analogue bar graph for showing readings dynamically. A simplified analysis process can give a ‘Go/No go’ indication of insulation status or provide more detailed qualitative information on PI, DAR and resistance values. Operation is undertaken via a surprisingly straightforward dial and push-button interface whilst locking the test voltages helps prevent mistakes from inexperienced users.

A low weight of just 4kg means that it is easy to transport around large sites and there are ergonomic handles as well as protective casing which gives the Chauvin Arnoux CA6505 an ingress protection rating of IP53. One charge of the rechargeable NiMh battery powers the instrument for roughly 30 days and there is an AC charging point built in to the tester’s body. All necessary accessories are supplied as standard and the tester is rated as Cat III 1000V.
