Clare HAL104 AC/DC Hipot Tester
Product Code: HAL104
Clare HAL104 Electrical Safety Tester - AC/DC Hipot and DC Insulation Tester
The Clare HAL104 is the flagship product within the Clare HAL series. It extends on the specification of the HAL103 not only to satisfy live test measurements, but also allows for advanced system integration options.
Unlike the other HAL products, the ClareHAL104 can conduct functional, run and current leakage tests. These measurements are conducted either at the value of the supply voltage, or at any voltage up to 300VAC by using an auxiliary input provided. Each option is selected using a simple switch set to either mains voltage or auxiliary input.
The parameters that can be set using the above test option are as follows:
- Load Power Min/Max Value (kVA)
- Power Factor Min/Max Value (Ratio)
- Leakage Current Min/Max Value (mA)
- Touch Current Min/Max Value (mA)
The Clare HAL104 is an essential electrical safety tester ideal for manufacturers to ensure compliance with legislation for their products, including CE marking. All of the basic tests specified in EU Directives, International, European and UK standards are included on the HAL104, as well as advanced system integration options.
Operation of the Clare HAL104 is carried out in one of four modes; automatic, manual, direct control and PLC control:
- In automatic mode, test sequences are stored in the memory, whilst new sequences can be programmed. This ideal for structured repeatable testing, usually suited for standard production line use
- Manual mode provides quick, simple tests intended for laboratory and repair use
- Direct PC control is possible by programming the HAL using simple command protocols. This level of control is ideal for testing equipment that has several modes of operation, each having potential to present errors that would not be apparent until the product reached the applicable state, such as a washing machine
- A programmable logic circuit (PLC) can be used to control the Clare HAL unit via the external control ports.
Clare Safety E-base software is available to purchase from the options above which will allow the Clare HAL104 to integrate into most ISO quality systems. The internal memory will store up to 6000 test results digitally which can be downloaded for traceability purposes complying with manufacturing guidelines.
Other Clare HAL104 Benefits
The Clare HAL104 is also compatible with the Clare PowerSmart Module, which allows full load and leakage testing on products rated greater than 16 A. With two modules available, single and three phase, full testing can be performed on industrial electrical equipment, quickly, efficiently and with the full traceability offered with the HAL series.
Additionally used in conjunction with the Clare HAL104 tester, the Clare SwitchSmart provides the capability for automatic electrical safety testing between multiple test points or testing multiple products simultaneously. This allows for unrivalled speed and efficiency coupled with the high level of safety that the modern production line needs.
Key Features
- Configurable test sequences
- Function, Load and Power measurements
- Comply with EN50191
EN50191 and CE Implications
EN 50191 is a workplace safety standard that complements the product specific international technical CE standards under which all electrical and electronics products must be designed and manufactured.
These technical standards relate to various electrical safety and performance factors ensuring electrical products are constructed in accordance with good engineering practice and will not pose a danger to users. Products must adhere to the requirements of all relevant product safety standards, if they are to meet the requirements to bear the CE mark.
Examples include the Low Voltage and the Machinery Directive. The Clare HAL series are designed to help manufacturers fulfil these obligations, whilst maximising productivity. Clare testers have applications in the laboratory for design verification and type approval testing and on the production line for functional and safety testing, as well as quality control and audit.
In all cases, the effective integration of the HAL104 with production line systems not only ensures vital regulatory compliance, but also significantly enhances productivity, product quality and litigation from electric shock.
