FLIR CM85 True RMS 1000A Power Clamp Meter

Like the other meters in the FLIR CM8X range, the FLIR CM85 True RMS 1000A Power Clamp Meter is an accurate, versatile, industrial-grade clamp meter suitable for the professional electrical troubleshooter. It differs from its CM8X stablemates in that it has a huge 990kW and 1000A AC/DC ranges, including for Inrush measurement. Furthermore, it boasts Bluetooth connectivity, which allows readings to be viewed remotely on a smartphone or tablet up to 10m away, and METERLiNK technology which can embed readings into thermal images on compatible FLIR thermal cameras. This can save time and/or improve safety in hazardous or awkward environments.

The CM85, in addition to the 1000A AC/DC current range, also has wide measurement ranges of AC/DC voltage (1000V), frequency, capacitance, resistance, diode test, and continuity. It is possible to analyse system level performance using the harmonics and power efficiency (10kW to 1000kW) functions whilst the Inrush mode helps capture AC current spikes during start-up phases. Additionally, the CM85’s phase rotation testing ensures that the motor and power source are aligned and it is therefore possible to measure three-phase power systems, evaluate power draw, and check power output distribution. The advanced electrical features include True RMS and auto-ranging to save time and produce more accurate results and the user also has a choice of min/max/avg readings and data/relative/peak hold. The integrated non-contact voltage detector is another handy feature that saves time and improves safety. Finally, the device’s variable frequency drive filtering functions (VFD) allow it to take readings for VFD-controlled objects so it is truly advanced on every level.

Aside from its impressive measurement capabilities, the CM85 also performs well when everyday use is considered. The dual LED lights are bright enough to illuminate whatever needs measuring without a torch and the backlit LCD screen has large digits and an analogue bar-graph mode so readings are always clearly legible. The rubberised handle and ergonomic design make it easy to hold in one hand and also render the CM85 extremely durable.
