The Fluke 179 True RMS Multimeter is an advanced, versatile multimeter that can measure AC/DC voltage, AC/DC current, resistance, capacitance, frequency, and temperature, from a basic accuracy of ±0.09%. In addition, True RMS makes readings for AC values more reflective of real outputs. The measurement ranges are expansive and the instrument produces highly accurate readings for each parameter whilst there are also options for continuity and diode testing.

Further features supplement the Fluke 179’s impressive measurement capabilities. There are options for both automatic and manual ranging which saves time whilst still allowing the user to make fine adjustments as required. The large backlit screen shows readings in digital and analogue bar-graph form as well as allowing display hold and auto hold. In addition, minimum, maximum and average values can be recorded in order to provide a clear picture of system performance whilst smoothing mode helps filter rapidly fluctuating input values.

Safety is another important aspect of the Fluke 179. The device alerts the user to the presence of unsafe voltage or voltage overload via an on-screen symbol and is rated as Cat IV to 600V and Cat III to 1000V. Similarly, the word ‘LEAd’ is briefly shown when the dial is moved from ‘A’ to ‘mA’ to remind the user to check that test leads are in the right inputs.

The Fluke 179 has a light, ergonomic design with slots in the back to hold test probes. It comes supplied with test leads (probe tips and probe caps included), a Fluke 80BK temperature probe, a user’s manual and a pre-installed 9V battery.
