The Fluke TiS40 9Hz Thermal Imager is a high-spec, high resolution thermal imaging camera that measures and portrays temperatures between -20?C and 350?C via its 160 x 120 pixel thermal sensor. The large spot-to-distance ratio of 257:1 allows the user to take measurements from a safe distance away from hot or inaccessible surfaces whilst the 35.7? x 26.8? field of view allows instant inspection of extensive areas. Digital zoom then permits the user to focus in on anomalous heat patterns for a closer look.

Troubleshooting is facilitated by a choice of auto-blending and manual blending (0, 25, 50, 75, 100) between the thermal image and an underlaid digital image supplied by the Fluke TiS40’s integrated 5-megapixel digital camera which accelerates and streamlines troubleshooting. Images are shown on the 3.5” (320 x 240 pixel) screen which has adjustable brightness and a wide range of colour palettes. Differences of just 0.09?C are depicted thanks to a thermal sensitivity of ≤90mK.

Hot and cold spots indicate the hottest and coldest points in shot whilst a digital readout gives the precise surface temperature point at the Fluke TiS40’s measurement spot in the centre of the screen. Furthermore a separate spot marker can be set to point out any area at a pre-selected temperature. Additional feedback is provided by high/low alarms that give thermal images of objects above or below user-adjustable temperature limits.

Thermal images and an accompanying visible image can be saved to the device’s 4GB internal memory for easy analysis and auto-capture takes photos or a series of photos when temperature falls or rises beyond an adjustable point. Images can be edited on the Fluke TiS40 itself but it is also easy to transfer data to a computer via wifi connectivity or a supplied USB cable. The Fluke Connect app and SmartView software allow analysis, editing and display on both the instrument and the user’s computer whilst a choice of file formats give flexibility and practicality.

The Fluke TiS40 is easy to use thanks to its intuitive menus, point-and-click trigger operation, and easily navigable interface whilst the user is kept informed of battery status by the Li-ion rechargeable battery cartridge. This cartridge clips simply into the bottom of the comfortable pistol grip and provides 4 hours of operation on one charge. The Fluke TiS40 is supplied inside a soft carry case inside a separate hard carry case.
