IET Guidance Note 1: Selection and Erection

The Guidance Notes series has now been updated to Amendment 3 of the 17th Edition IET Writing Regulations (BS 7671:2008+A3:2015).

The IET Guidance Note 1: Selection & Erection contains clear guidance on how to apply the relevant sections of BS 7671. A fundamental guide for specifiers, installers and those testing installations, the expected updates in Amendment 3 greatly impact on day-to-day tasks. The main changes to BS 7671 that impact Guidance Note 1 include information on: Consumer units (to come into effect January 2016); Wiring in escape routes; Changes to earth fault loop impedances for all protective devices; Changes to definitions throughout the Regulations. Please note, sections previously in Guidance Note 1 on Outdoor Lighting and ELV Lighting can now be found in Guidance Note 7 (5th Edition). Amendment 3 published on 5 January 2015 and comes into effect on 1 July 2015. All new installations from this point must comply with Amendment 3 to BS 7671:2008 .

Specific areas covered by this IET Guidance Note are the selection & erection of equipment and wiring systems, protection against overcurrent, electric shock and overvoltage, external influences on cables and electrical equipment, installation & sizing of cables and the installation of electrical equipment. These chapters are followed by a number of appendices offering a range of notes and tables to be used as a reference point.
