Megger MIT405/2 Insulation Tester

The Megger MIT405/2 Insulation Tester, part of Megger’s MIT400 Mk2 range, is primarily suited to insulation testing in electrical and industrial contexts, but remains a useful instrument for a wide array of other tasks including but not limited to cable testing, motor testing, automotive, ESD, panel building, avionics and system maintenance. The Megger MIT405/2’s extra-low voltage options of 10V and 25V make it suitable for specialised applications including telecoms installations; electrical and communications systems in aviation; and voltage-sensitive electrical installations, in addition to the large range of uses detailed above.

In terms of insulation testing, the Megger MIT405/2 provides great range and versatility because the user can select a test voltage of between 10V and 500V at his or her discretion. Feedback-control limits over-voltage to just 2% as opposed to 10-20% which improves accuracy and prevents potential system damage. Polarisation index (PI) and dielectric absorption ratio (DAR) can also be measured with the Megger MIT405/2.

The two line digital display shows test voltage and insulation testing reading simultaneously whilst an ‘analogue’ arc projection helps visualise dynamic readings. Testing is prevented if a dangerous voltage is found through the Megger MIT405/2’s automatic voltage detection and a buzzer alarm sounds if insulation resistance is too great, thereby improving safety during operation.

Continuity testing is possible with the Megger MIT405/2 thanks to test currents of 20mA or 200mA and the process is simplified thanks to the simple, autonomous range from 0.01Ω to 1MΩ. Lead resistance compensation makes continuity testing more accurate whilst a continuity buzzer alarm sounds at a user-adjustable limit (1Ω to 200Ω). The true RMS voltage measurement on the Megger MIT405/2 allows the user to accurately measure AC/DC voltage between 0 and 600V to a precision of 0.1V.

The Megger MIT405/2 is weatherproof to IP54 standard thanks to its completely sealed case whilst the over-moulded rubber grips make the device sturdier and easier to handle. The device meets IEC61010 and EN61557 whilst the Cat IV safety rating up to 600V means that the user can have confidence when operating the device. Overall, the Megger MIT405/2 constitutes a versatile, sturdy insulation tester that will give the user accurate results in a whole range of different industries.
