Protimeter Timbermaster Wood Moisture Meter

The Protimeter Timbermaster (BLD5604) is a conductivity meter designed specifically for the timber industry, allowing accurate wood moisture content readings to be recorded across 150 species of wood from around the World.

The UK Timber Grading Committee (UKTGC) has recommended that the Protimeter Timbermaster is utilised for all moisture content readings of timber manufactured for structural purpose, in order to meet the requirements detailed in BS4978 and BSEN519.

Timber moisture measurements can be obtained by using the integral two-pin electrode, which can be calibrated using an in-built wood calibration scale to ensure accurate measurements. Alternatively, an optional external hammer electrode can be attached by a 3.5mm auxiliary socket in order to record sub-surface timber moisture levels.

Temperature Compensation

The Protimeter Timbermaster is calibrated for measuring wood at 20°C. As such, variations in wood temperature can mean that moisture measurements are effected as much as 0.5% per every 5°C above or below 20°C.

An approximate manual correction of 0.5% moisture content per 5°C may be subtracted from timber that is above 20°C. For timber below 20°C, a manual correction of 0.5% moisture content per 5°C may be added to the measured value.

Alternatively, kits are available comprising an optional temperature probe that will automatically compensate the reading depending on the temperature of the timber being measured.
