The vane measures windspeed from 0.3m/s to 20m/s (thereby calculating volume flow from 0 to 99999m³/h) whilst the NTC air temperature sensor range goes from 0 to +50?.

The Testo 417 automatically detects air-flow direction and shows results clearly on its backlit LCD screen. Both volume flow and flow speed are shown once the user has input the duct area and there is also the option to toggle between air flow speed and air temperature. The device has advanced measurement features including data hold, and mean and timed point average calculation whilst minimum and maximum value are shown at the push of a button.
