Lindapter Clamps Secure the New Tower Bridge Glass Walkways
The new viewing platform of the iconic bridge spans the River Thames at a height of 42metres (140ft) and features a glass floor to reveal the bridge deck and water below. The floor consists of several glass panels, each weighing 530kg, supported by a carbon steel framework weighing 1,000kg. The frame was safely secured to the original steel lattice structure with Lindapter’s CE marked clamps, allowing the contractors to complete the installation within six weeks. Grade 1 listed since 1894, the protection of the iconic steel architecture was of paramount importance. The pre-assembled assembly avoided onsite welding, meaning that there was less work at height and no need for on-site closures. This simplified the installation process and ensured the iconic grade 1 listed structure was not damaged. Moreover, using only simple hand tools allowed a quick and convenient process, saving time and money on the project. Throughout the project, reassurance was offered from Lindapter’s extensive technical support, leading industry approvals and over 80 years’ experience in designing and manufacturing connections.
