The ‘ace’ in the pack from Ajax Machine Tools International is the latest 51 mm bar size or 200 mm slant bed chucking lathe with 290 mm turning diameter by 500 mm between centres. The Ajax ACE AJSB 200S machine is available as a ready-to-run package with start up tooling for under £37,000 in chucking specification or less than £47,000 with bar feed. The Ajax AJSB 200S is mid-range in the very competitively priced Ace lathe series having a high turning capability that covers bar sizes between 36 mm and 75 mm and between 165 mm and 250 mm chuck size with up to 650 mm between centres. As an example of the benefits the AJSB 200S has to offer, through its cast iron construction with high specification hardened and ground steel boxways, is the net weight of some 3.8 tonnes that enables heavy duty machining sequences in difficult materials to be absorbed in the machine frame and effectively carried out. Featuring a spindle power of 11 kW, it has a speed range between 50 and 5,000 revs/min. An eight station turret and tailstock with 80 mm barrel diameter has a programmable quill with 100 mm travel. A parts-catcher is also included. Standard features on the Ajax Ace AJSB 200S further raise the price to performance capability with swarf conveyor, tool presetting probe, spindle stop orientation and four boring bar holders, eight OD turning tool holders and a face and ID holder block. Control is by Fanuc Oi-TD Mate and the facility to use the electronic handwheel for teach-repeat in both Y- and Z-axes. The machine drives package is also Fanuc. There are options of either the LNS Alpha 1.5 m magazine bar feed or LNS Sprint 552 up to 3 m. There is also software available for BOB CAD, CADCAM and RS 232 cable.
