This holiday park based in Kent was undergoing a massive revamp of the whole area, creating the perfect family holiday play space. It was previously a substantial damp, unusable grass area that wasn’t used at all.
Our biggest project of 2022 certainly doesn’t disappoint.
We installed approximately 4,500m2 of our 40mm Active Lawn and 200m2 of our ex-cruft’s Pedigree Lawn for the archery and dog agility areas. Both are incredibly durable and look natural throughout the space, with the strong w-shaped yarn of the Active Lawn capable of handling heavy footfall. Check out the amazing drone photos to see how the Active Lawn works around the play equipment and different activity areas!
The Problem
The previous condition of the area meant that a significant amount of the space wasn’t being used. Due to the contours of the area, some of it was also quite uneven.
The mission was to make the area useable year-round, so the park opted for artificial grass to be mud- and mess-free with low maintenance.
As the area was for families, they also wanted it to be soft underneath. This way, kids would be able to enjoy the area without parents fearing bumps and falls.
The Solution
To replace the natural grass, we installed 4500m2 of our Active Lawn and 200 m2 of our Pedigree Lawn. Similarly, we installed a 35mm Grass Flex shock pad where required around play equipment to ensure a suitable critical fall height.
The Method
We followed our standard installation process, whereby our team removed and disposed of the existing grass before continuing to:
The Process
We completed the standard installation process with extra fixings.
1- Firstly, the natural grass was removed.
2- Next, a layer of type 1 stone was added and consolidated.
3- Following this, a blinding layer of crushed granite, geotextile, and our 35mm Grass Flex shock pad underlay were installed where required.
4- After this, artificial grass was installed on top with a kiln-dried sand infill.
5- Finally, the whole area was secured with a mixture of six-inch steel pins, concrete fillets and adhesive, along with timber stakes and screws. All joints were sealed with artificial grass jointing tape and polyurethane weatherproof adhesive.
The Result
The finished result is a super safe and highly durable play area that is soft underneath for play equipment safety. Moreover, it looks fantastic and perfectly encompasses all play equipment and benches.
Just some of the play equipment surrounded by the Active Lawn include high ropes, sandpits, climbing walls, trampolines, and a bag jump! This made a lot of the jointing and laying quite difficult and time-consuming due to the area’s contours; however, we were able to achieve a high-quality finish. Last but not least, we installed artificial grass to a few mounds, which was a nice little feature but, again, very tricky!
