When carrying out area gas monitoring to safeguard groups of workers in the field, remote locations or in hazardous areas, closed-loop monitoring can improve the detection of dangerous gasses.
Closed-loop monitoring is a technique which is possible with the BW RigRat, and it works by connecting a BW Rigrat with up to 8 other RigRats. If one alarm goes off, then all monitors will go in to alarm, and the RigRat that has detected the danger will show a red light while the others will show an amber light.
As a result, workers are made aware of gas threats in a specific area so that they can take necessary action. The data collected from all monitors is reported in one place.
The closed-loop monitoring method therefore enables area gas monitoring across a larger area, with the maximum wireless distance between RigRat units (on ground level) being 984 ft. / 300 m (868-900 MHz) or 492 ft. / 150 m (2.4 GHz ).
The RigRat is an easily transportable piece of equipment that measures the following gases: LEL, CO2, VOC, CO, H2S, SO2, O2, NO, NO2, HCN, NH3 and CL2, and they are available to rent from Ashtead Technology.
