The Problem
A sugar beet processing plant, in North Dakota, reached out to BGB for support on their half bridge clarifier and scraper systems. Their wastewater treatment equipment was 30 years old, and their slip ring assemblies/collector columns needed attention. Michal C. at the facility said their 8 power ring assembly needed refurbishment in less than 8 weeks as their processing plant was shutting down for routine maintenance.
The Solution
After reviewing the specifications and seeing the pictures of this 30 year old slip ring, BGB’s engineering staff knew it would be more than just stripping, cleaning, and performing some electrical resistance tests. However, with BGB’s experience in the wastewater industry for over 30 years, we shot into action. In addition, the North Dakota plant wanted a spare unit to be quoted, so as BGB inspected the unit, our Engineers were measuring and compiling drawings for a replacement unit. The project consisted of blasting, remachining, antitrack repainting of rings and tie rod end plates, replacing rod insulations, and brush gear supports. The project took a few weeks, but the unit arrived at the promised leadtime, and the farm site’s wastewater facility got up and running as planned and within budget.
The Future
BGB has increased its repairs and servicing activities in recent years as part of its commitment to reducing waste and becoming a sustainable manufacturer. With BGB’s extensive experience in the slip ring market, we actively working with customers in the wastewater, wind, crane, rotary door, packaging, ROV, and automation industry to see whether we can reintroduce/repair/refurbish units back into the supply chain to be reused and not the traditional “make”, “use”, and “dispose” approach to products.
The Happy Customer
Our timely service was appreciated by Michal C. as he stated “I want to thank you for all the help on this project. I am very pleased how this came out. The refurbished slip rings look great and the timing for this service was also great.” The refurbished unit has been in action for multiple weeks, and the client has been very pleased with the performance and the cost savings obtained from our repair service vs buying new.
