We look at how lead acid batteries are used in true cyclic applications such as wind farms and solar applications. Both applications can present problems in terms of charging. For Solar there may be a lack of sunlight and of course will not provide any power during the night, whereas wind turbines may be able to product power at night however if there is no wind available then the charging cycle will clearly be severely disrupted.
The latest blog article from Blue Box Batteries looks at the charging issues in cyclic equipment and how this is overcome, as well as considering other aspects encountered and the cycle life that can be expected during the service of lead acid batteries. There are different types of lead acid batteries that can be suitable, we discuss the types and explain why these can be most suitable.
Continue to follow our blog for further articles discussing industrial batteries, in a future publication we will cover the subject of open circuit voltages, explaining how this information can be used to establish the health and characteristics of a battery system.
