A Wake Up Call For Road Safety...
30-01-2019
The Global Status Report on Road Safety for 2018 has just been released by the World Health Organisation, revealing some truly eye-opening figures. The most prominent of which is the number of road traffic deaths in 2016 which reached 1.35 million. This rightly draws attention to a very important issue: that our roads are simply not as safe as they should be.
Some progress has been made however, including an improvement in vehicle standards, though this has not been achieved at a fast enough rate. This has resulted in the goal set by Sustainable Development Goals’ (SDG) to halve all road traffic deaths by 2020 to be completely unreachable.
Though a large portion of countries are doing what they can to improve these statistics through strengthening legislation, this process can often take some time. Because of this, it is the responsibility of drivers to ensure the roadworthiness of their vehicle and driving.
At Checkpoint, road safety has always been at the core of our business and numerous incidents caused by wheel loss is what led to Checkpoint’s founder Mike Marczynski to invent the world’s first loose nut indicator: the Checkpoint Original.
Since the creation of the Checkpoint Original, a host of intelligent safety solutions have been developed to solve a range of wheel security problems. We have many products which provide indication and/or retention as well as tools to be used for both security and maintenance purposes.
As global leaders in wheel safety with over 30 years’ experience, you can trust that you are dealing with the experts. Visit our products page for the full Checkpoint Safety range.
