CML Innovative Technologies has been one of the first automotive supplier to work on Ambient Lighting in the middle of 90's. One of the benefits of ambient lighting is to secure the driver, especially during night driving. It illuminates the necessary functions in case of need, and thus confers a security feeling. The vehicle manufacturer can as well find an interest, as ambient lighting answers to marketing differentiation needs of the brand. Color can match the identity of the car maker, and be consistent with the whole car interior (instrument panel or middle console). Floor illumination gives a vehicle its own special distinction in the aesthetic sense. It also delivers an added measure of convenience and security. Over the years we have developed a strong know-how in lightpipes technology used for ambient lighting. This technology added to capacitive sensor modules allows us o create intelligent lighting systems. It consists in switching on/off or settling the light intensity of an overhead console and reading spots without using controllers. The distance between the hand and the capacitive sensor (implemented in the overhead console) defines the following steps: switch on, variation of the light intensity and finally switch off.
