What is Terrazzo Designs:
Terrazzo designs are loved for their playful yet elegant aesthetic, making them perfect for individuals seeking something modern and unique. These FIMO earrings mimic the stylish terrazzo flooring pattern with multi-coloured flecks embedded in a solid background.
Materials and Design Ideas:
- Start with a neutral base like white, cream, or black FIMO polymer clay.
- Add small pieces of brightly coloured clay in shades like coral, navy, and emerald to create the terrazzo effect.
- Shape the clay into hoops or chunky studs for bold statement pieces.
- Sand and buff the final product for a polished finish.
Why It’s On-Trend:
Terrazzo patterns are a staple in contemporary design, beloved for their clean yet dynamic look that pairs with almost any outfit.
Instructions:
Step 1
Take the translucent white FIMO polymer clay and knead about ½ the block until smooth.

Step 2
Roll the clay out on a wipeable or nonstick surface using an acrylic rolling pin to about 2mm thick. Place a stack of cards or acrylic strips on either side of the roller ends when rolling to ensure an even thickness of clay.

Step 3
Break off a small amount of each of the other colours of FIMO and use a grater to shred the clay over the white rolled-out clay.

Spread the shreds of clay out evenly and remove any pieces that are too large.

Step 4
Use the acrylic roller to gently roll over the clay and adhere the shreds of coloured clay to the white clay.

Step 5
Use a clay cutter to cut out shapes.

Step 6
Use a cocktail stick or FIMO piercing needle to add holes at the top of some of the shapes that you wish to make into dangly earrings.
Leave the shapes you’d like to make into stud earrings blank.
Ensure that you make 2 of each size and style to pair them up later!

Step 7
Place all the shapes on a baking tray and bake in the oven at 130 degrees Celsius for 30 mins or according to the instructions on the packet.

Step 8
When cool and dry use the FIMO polish and grind pads with a little water and gentle rub over the shapes to smooth the edges.

Step 9
Using a paintbrush, apply a thin layer of varnish to each shape and allow to dry.

Step 10
To make stud earrings place a small amount of glue on the reverse of the earring post and place in the centre of the reverse of the clay shape and leave to dry.

Step 11
To create dangly earrings use pliers to grip either side of the hoop of the hook wire and twist to open. Thread the clay shape through the hole and then grip the hoop of the hook wire with the pliers to close the hoop flush.

Hold the earrings up to the light to see the full effect of the translucent clay.
